Winsor & Newton's range of spray varnishes offers and excellent alternative to working with brush-on varnishes, giving a simpler, more even application through the use of an aerosol can.Varnishing your painting after completion is highly recommended to protect it against dirt, grease and general wear & tear, but remember to leave even the thinnest oil paintings to dry for at least 6 months before varnishing, as shrinkage and cracking can appear if varnished too early.Spray varnishes have the benefit of being capable of coating paintings that are very textural or have impasto effects, where brush-on varnishes would foam or sink into the troughs of the paint on application.
